Brookland

Near the border of Washington DC and Maryland, Brookland is located in the Northeast quadrant of the District of Columbia. The neighborhood borders Edgewood, Brentwood, and University Heights and is positioned close to the action in DC with Ivy City, Eckington, and NoMa just a few metro stops away. 

Sometimes referred to as DC’s Little Rome, Brookland is a prominent center of Catholic culture. The area contains many famous Catholic institutions and structures like the Franciscan Monastery of the Holy Land in America and the Catholic University of America that have shaped its development and aesthetic. The Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, a famous DC landmark, is also just a short walk from the heart of Brookland.

Residents of Brookland enjoy easy access to several different metro stops on the Red Line, making commuting easy. At the northwest corner of the neighborhood is the Brookland-CUA stop, and the Rhode Island Avenue-Brentwood stop is in the southwest corner. As a popular neighborhood for CUA students, Brookland has a youthful and lively atmosphere, while still remaining a tranquil suburb. The neighborhood also is home to a thriving network of local artists at the popular Monroe Street Market, an outdoor art collective known for wonderful artisan shopping and dining. Homes in Brookland mainly consist of rowhouses and condominiums with apartments being less common in the area.
